Lackawanna County Pennsylvania, was formed from parts of Luzerne County August 13, 1878, and was the last county to be created. It was named for the Lackawanna River. Scranton, the county seat, was named for the Scranton family. See the Brief History of Lackawanna County and the Formation of the Townships for additional information.
